Contego is proud to be an accredited Living Wage Employer

Being part of the real Living Wage scheme is important to us as we strongly believe hard work deserves fair pay, and we are committed to supporting the real cost of living.

This is even more prominent in the current economic climate, with many people feeling the pinch of rising costs.

Contego has been a living wage employer for many years now, seeing raises consistently with the Foundation’s calculations – and we’ve seen nothing but benefits for both our team and the business as a whole.

The living wage foundation explains the scheme: “The real Living Wage is the only UK wage rate that is voluntarily paid by over 10,000 UK businesses who believe their staff deserve a wage which meets everyday needs – like the weekly shop, or a surprise trip to the dentist.”

When put in those terms, it’s a simple decision really.

Why do we do it?

At Contego we want to ensure our team is as supported as much as possible, and this is just one way we can show this. By ensuring colleagues have a good standard of living, we are enabling them to give their best at work – and this extends to all of our contractors including office cleaners, as well as our internal team.

The Living Wage scheme also closely aligns with our way of doing business – not just meeting minimum standards but going above and beyond. At Contego we always want to deliver the best possible service, and for that, we need to curate the best possible team to deliver it. Well, being part of the Living Wage scheme helps us to retain valued customers, and it’s how we attract and retain valued team members to deliver our outstanding service, with passion.

Customers rightly look at credentials before they hire a pest control company, and aside from our industry accreditations, our Living Wage accreditation is one that we are most proud of. It reflects our values as an ethical company that invests in its people and puts quality service before cutting costs.

We are now one of thousands of other organisations that have voluntarily raised salaries as part of the Living Wage scheme including Google, Nationwide, and almost half of the FTSE 100. Not bad company to find yourself among…

We hope that by committing to paying our team a fair wage, we can set a good example to other businesses, in our industry and beyond. If more can follow suit, and reap the benefits, it will help to foster a fairer society for all.
