Sleep Tight.

“Sleep tight. Don’t let the Bed Bugs bite.”

Probably one of your grandparents’ favourite sayings to you at bedtime.

Bed bugs. Just hearing the name makes me want to scratch.

You are probably the same, but bear with me, and don’t start to scratch just yet!
Although, if you have ‘bed bugs’ you’ve probably already been scratching as you will be covered in small bites.

Cimex lectularius, to give them their formal name, are small wingless insects that feed on the blood of warm-blooded animals – and they like us!

You may not immediately see the signs of the bites (as they are not usually felt at the time), but they are usually on your hands, neck, face, arms and legs. The resulting red marks are often grouped together in a small area, and may be in a line or zigzag pattern. (See photo).

The bugs can be difficult to find. They hide during the day, usually in and around your bed, or in bedroom furniture, cracks in skirting boards, etc. Check for small blood spots on the bed sheets, or small brown marks from their faeces.

It is vital to take action as soon as you suspect a problem or you will quickly have a major infestation.

Don’t be embarrassed to call us – you’d be surprised at some of the ‘Palaces’ we’ve treated!
They don’t choose ‘dirty houses’, you have merely been unlucky and brought them into your home from perhaps a hotel or with some second hand furniture.
