Racing To Success

Contego Sponsor Peter Mangion at the 2020 Ginetta GT4 Supercup Championship

Contego are excited to announce that we are sponsoring amateur stock car race driver Peter Mangion in the 2020 Ginetta GT4 Supercup Championship. Peter has over 24 years of racing experience on the circuit at amateur level and his next race for the championship is at the Croft race circuit on October 10 – 11th 2020, where he will be racing the G55 GTA, a fully purpose-built car for the circuit with a V6 engine that can reach a speed of 150 mph.

The Ginetta Championships offers upcoming race car drivers an opportunity to progress from entry-level competition, right the way through to international motorsport platforms, with some drivers experiencing progression of the motorsport ladder from first race aged 14 into international racing stardom.

Peter, originally from Maidenhead, Berkshire moved north over thirty years ago and now resides in Harrogate, North Yorkshire with his wife and two children. It was after this move North that Peter realised his passion for stock car racing and his dream to become a race driver on the amateur circuit.

Peter always had an interest in anything that involved motorsport racing, and when he was younger he enjoyed motor cross racing and even competed in a number of races. However, Peter discovered his passion for stock car racing after a friend invited him to a race day experience at Silverstone race circuit as a birthday gift. It was after this race car experience day that Peter decided that he wanted to become an amateur stock car race driver.

Peter, already an exceptionally busy man in the world of business decided he was going to make his dream become his reality by securing his first stock car the very next day, which was a Caterham stock car. Peter had the car but in order for him to compete on the motorsport circuit, he needed to gain his licence. After many hours of training on different race car circuits and studying theory, Peter secured his licence a mere 6 months after his race experience day and in 1996 he entered his very first stock car race at amateur level at Silverstone.

Peter continued racing after his first race in 1996 and has now competed in 23 races over his amateur career which has resulted in 11 wins, with his last win being in the 2018 Porsche Carrera Cup Great Britain – Amateur, which Peter hopes to repeat in this years Ginetta Championship on October 10 – 11th 2020.

Peter had this to say of his experience in the sport –

“I am really looking forward to racing at Croft this weekend. I haven’t raced here for twenty years now but it hasn’t changed much, apart from having been resurfaced last year.

Croft is a great track with some very fast sections but also some slower corners too. It has a little bit of everything in terms of a challenge for drivers. The Ginetta G55 will be very quick around here I am sure.

I am hoping for wet weather as I seem to have got to grips with the car more in the wet than the dry. Whatever the weather I’m sure it will be great fun”.

“With the continued growth of Contego we are really proud to sponsor Peter this season and his team, the racing circut TV coverage gives us great exposure and brand recognition” said Mike Taylor. CEO Contego.

The final race of the Ginetta Championship is at Croft race circuit on 10 – 11th October 2020.

Watch out for us on ITV4 Sunday 11th October at 12.45pm (1st Race) and 16.25pm (2nd Race).
