Property managers are being warned to make pest control a priority after a Kent mother of two, who had been living with a rodent infestation for over 9 years, recently won a court case against her landlord.

Deputy District Judge Brown ruled that there was sufficient evidence of a rat and mouse infestation under the Environment Protection Act after reviewing a report produced by a legal pest control surveyor. The report outlined remedial measures the landlord had failed to implement.

He ordered the company to carry out a full eradication program within 60 days and ordered them to pay £5509.52 in costs, a fine of £2500, and £2000 compensation to the tenant.
