5 Signs I Have Bedbugs In My Home

Bedbugs are the hitchhikers of the pest world. They don't usually get in through cracks in the wall or gaps in your pipework, they hitch a ride into your property on everything from your clothing, to luggage, fabrics, and furniture.
These sneaky bugs are hard to spot because they are great at hiding, and they breed fast. An adult female can lay between 200-500 eggs in just two months, and here's the thing, female bed bugs need to feed on your blood before they lay their eggs!
Bed bugs bites can cause allergic reactions and skin irritation so if you suspect you have bed bugs in your home, you need to act fast before you have a troublesome infestation on your hands that puts your family's health at risk.
5 signs you have bedbugs in your home
Aside from noticing bites and irritation of your skin, if you have bedbugs in your home, you'll probably see these 5 signs.
You'll see shed skins: There are 5 stages in the bed bug life cycle, and after each phase, they shed their skins as they become adults.
You'll see faeces: You might notice clusters of tiny black dots in areas where there's an infestation.
You'll notice blood spots: These are either from the bites, or from when a bedbug is crushed, and you'll likely see tiny spots of blood on your bed sheets.
You'll be able to smell a strange scent: With a large bedbug infestation, you'll be able to smell a strange, sweet odour in the area they've invaded. Bed bugs release this odour when they are disturbed.
You might see the bedbugs themselves: As we mentioned, though bed bugs are experts at staying hidden and they are tiny (only around 4-5mm long), you might see them in gaps under skirting boards, in the seams of mattresses, and in the nooks and crannies of furniture. They are also nocturnal and tend to feed at night, but feeding during the day is not unheard of.
This is why calling in professional pest control is a good idea. The professionals know where to look for bedbugs and they can easily identify signs of an infestation. If you try to take a bedbug infestation into your own hands, you might not be able to spot all of the bedbugs that are present, and if you don't eradicate them all, they'll keep on breeding and causing you problems.
