Urban Myth: One Treatment Will Eradicate All Pests
When it comes to eradicating pests, one treatment sometimes works, but more often than not, at least two visits and treatments are needed to get rid of a pest problem, especially if you're dealing with hardy pests like cockroaches and it's a serious infestation.
What you might notice after a pest control treatment is that you see an initial increase in pest activity. This doesn't mean that the treatment has failed, it's just because it's driven the pests from their hiding places, so they might be more visible for a while until the treatment has taken effect.
Don't be tempted to spring clean your home too soon after the treatment, you should wait up to 7 days so that you don't wash away any of the products or treatments.
Prevention is the key to successful pest control
We will tell you if and when a follow-up treatment is needed, and we'll make recommendations on how you can pest proof your home and prevent a further infestation.
It makes sense that if what attracted the pests in the first place is not fixed or changed, the chances of a reinfestation are high. So a lot of what we recommend is focused on what you can do in your home to prevent this from happening, including:
Keeping your kitchen clean
Keep your worktops, floors, and cupboards clean. Wipe up any spillages and don't leave uncovered food (human or pet) lying around for hungry pests.
Eliminating standing water
Pests are always on the lookout for sources of food and water, so check around for leaks and stagnant water anywhere in or around your home.
Emptying your rubbish bin regularly
Flies and rodents in particular feed on rotting garbage, so don't leave your rubbish accumulating for too long. When you take it to your outside bin, make sure rubbish bags are tightly sealed and bin lids are secure so pests aren't attracted to it.
Keeping your garden tidy
As we mentioned, eliminate any sources of standing water, and keep bushes and shrubs trimmed back as they provide pests with a place to shelter and breed. If the bushes and shrubs are next to your house, they can also give pests a sneaky way to get in.
Inspecting your property for possible entry points
Pests are sneaky and they will always find a way into your house, even through the tiniest of cracks. Inspect your home and seal up any possible access points like cracks in walls, gaps under doors, and gaps around pipes.
Decluttering regularly
Pests love making their nests and breeding in dark, dusty places, so if your garage or loft is full of clutter and boxes full of things that are just gathering dust, they might just be harbouring pests. Have a good declutter regularly to reduce the amount of places that pests have to hide in your home.
