THE PROBLEM

The national retailer faced challenges with pest birds, including pigeons and seagulls, roosting and nesting on the warehouse canopy. The presence of pest birds posed risks of property damage, sanitation issues, and potential health hazards for employees working in and around the warehouse area.

THE SOLUTION

Contego proposed the installation of 19mm bird netting to cover the warehouse canopy as an effective solution to prevent pest birds from roosting and nesting. Bird netting creates a physical barrier that denies access to birds while allowing light and airflow to penetrate, maintaining the functionality of the warehouse canopy.

THE IMPLEMENTATION

Site Assessment: Contego's team conducted a thorough site assessment to determine the extent of the pest bird infestation and identify key areas requiring bird netting installation.

Customised Installation Plan: Based on the site assessment, Contego developed a customized installation plan to cover the 600 square meters of the warehouse canopy with 19mm bird netting. Stainless steel fixings were strategically placed every 300mm to support the 2mm stainless steel wire frame that held the netting in place.

Professional Installation: A two-man Contego team executed the installation over three days, working from Mobile Elevated Work Platforms (MEWPs) to access the elevated areas of the warehouse canopy safely. The team ensured precise placement of the bird netting and fixings to achieve comprehensive coverage and maximum effectiveness.

Quality Assurance: Throughout the installation process, Contego adhered to strict quality control measures to ensure that the bird netting was securely installed and properly tensioned, minimising the risk of bird intrusion.
