Team Spotlight – Rob Curston

What is your name?

Rob Curston

How old are you?

49

How long have you worked in pest control?

I started my career in pest control in 1997 as a technician at Rentokil. I worked my way through the ranks and then moved to Ecolab in 2006. At Ecolab I became UK and Ireland top salesman for 9 consecutive years and Global Sales Manager of the Year in 2015. I joined Team Contego in February of 2019 as Head of Business Development.

What are your hobbies?

I love mountain biking – normally around Medway but I can also be seen up mountains in wales, trails in surrey and tracks in Berkshire – anywhere muddy normally.

Football- I’m a season ticket holder of the mighty Gillingham FC… we should have beaten the hammers last year but they cheated (!!)

I’m a proud family man, married to Helen for over twenty years and a proud dad to Charlotte 18 and Alex 14

An interesting fact about me:

Due to mountain biking I have had a few injuries—broken collarbone (last year) detached retina ( few years ago) various cuts and one infection due to mud going into the cuts. I also lost a piece of my nose a few years ago when Iwent headfirst over the handlebars.

Funniest/Scariest Pest Control Job?

Lots of bizarre stories over the years but the one that sticks out is a recent one where I was surveying a site with a competitor servicing it – one of the external baits had a dead rat inside decomposing but it was still moving. All of the insides of it had lots of bluebottle larvae there and as they were moving it made the body move!!
