FAQs
Do I really need anti-litter netting for my landfill site?
Yes. To meet the conditions of your environmental permit, you must have a plan in place to prevent litter escaping from your site. The regulations state among other things, that you must cover waste after it is deposited to prevent litter from being blown from your site and causing a nuisance or hazard.
Is it a long-term solution?
Yes. Anti-litter netting is very durable and is designed to withstand prolonged exposure to intense weather conditions.
Is anti-litter netting easy to install?
Yes, it’s very easy to install. We can provide you with a supply-only service or a full-installation service depending on your needs.
What’s the difference between contraband netting and the other types of netting you fit, i.e. bird netting?
A similar technique is used to install it, but in general, contraband netting is stronger than bird netting because it needs to be able to withstand the weight of snow etc
Where can contraband netting be fitted?
It can be fitted overhead in prison/detention centre courtyards/exercises yards, walkways, around perimeter fencing and in any sensitive/high-security indoor areas.
Can the netting be easily destroyed?
No, the netting is fire-retardant and chemical and weather resistant. The fixtures and fittings we use are also tamper-proof.
What exactly does bird mitigation mean?
It means managing their activity and preventing them from roosting or nesting by using methods such as bird spikes, netting, acoustic systems, and Avishock.
What methods do you use to deter ground nesting birds?
We use bird deterrents like falconry, acoustic systems and dogs to deter ground nesting birds, and we often pair these with other bird mitigation methods to keep them away from your site for good.
I need to get my construction project started, can I just get rid of ground nesting birds myself?
No. Under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 it is illegal to kill birds, remove their nests, or destroy their eggs unless you have a licence to do so.
Do you just install the technology and leave it?
No, we will continue to inspect your site, remove any pests from the traps, check everything is working as it should, and reposition the traps if needed. We can also deal with an infestation if we spot the tell-tale signs.
We also assess your pest control arrangements and make recommendations if we think improvements are needed.
What are the benefits of smart pest control?
You can monitor the traps remotely and get notifications 24/7 when a pest has been caught.
It’s a non-toxic solution to keep you compliant with the law.
Instant notifications about the presence of pests means that any potential infestation can be dealt with sooner rather than later.
Would smart pest control work for me?
Smart pest control can work for any business, especially if you’re a business that manufactures or packs food. There are strict regulations around the use of pest control methods in food preparation and storage areas, and our smart pest control system is the perfect non-toxic solution.
It can also be very helpful if you have a large site where checking traps constantly would be labour-intensive and time-consuming.
Will disinfection really help stop the spread of a virus?
Viruses are often spread by people touching infected surfaces, particularly ‘touchpoints’ like door handles, lift buttons, bins, and any other surfaces that are frequently touched. Disinfecting these touchpoints is a key part of our service and it helps to minimise the risk of infection.
I have a virus outbreak on my premises, how quickly can you respond?
Our rapid response teams are available 24/7 to assess the outbreak on your premises.
I have my own cleaners, is that enough to disinfect my premises?
If there’s an outbreak of a highly contagious virus on your premises, standard cleaning is not enough. This is especially true in hospitals, care homes, and other environments where a high level of hygiene is required.
What are the benefits of heat treatment?
You only need one fast, effective treatment so there’s minimal disruption to your home or business.
There are no chemicals involved.
It can save you money-mattresses, furniture, and soft furnishings can be treated rather than completely replace.
I found someone cheaper to carry out the heat treatment, are they the real deal?
If someone is advertising a cheap heat treatment, it’s probably too to be true. Proper heat treatment equipment like powerful heaters, not to mention the training that’s required for technicians is expensive, so someone who’s cheap might not be the real deal.
How does heat treatment kill bedbugs?
Insects and their eggs are made up of proteins and DNA. When a cell is heated to about 45°C or more, the DNA and the proteins are destroyed and the cell stops functioning. This means that the bedbugs and their eggs simply can’t survive.
Is K9 detection expensive?
The cost of the service depends on the extent of the exact problem, but what you’ll probably find is that using K9 detection will save you time and money. The dogs are very quick and accurate, so an inspection that could take a human hours can be done in a fraction of the time. The dogs’ accuracy also means that only infested areas are treated and unaffected rooms aren’t treated needlessly.
How do the dogs detect bed bugs?
It’s all down to their very acute sense of smell. Bed bugs emit pheromones and dogs are trained to recognise the scent. This means that they can sniff out bed bugs in hard to reach areas too.
Do I need K9 detection in my hotel?
Yes, if you have a large number of rooms that you need to inspect quickly for bedbugs. Specially-trained dogs can alert us to the presence of bedbugs or their eggs faster and more accurately than a human inspector.
What is fogging?
Fogging is the spraying of a disinfectant from a fogging machine. It’s an effective way to disinfect hard to reach places and keep premises clean, safe, and free from pathogens like viruses.
Can I clean up bird guano (poo) myself?
We definitely wouldn’t recommend it. Bird guano is full of nasty pathogens that can cause serious illness, from salmonella to E.coli.
We use specialist equipment and products to get rid of guano quickly and safely, making sure we don’t miss a spot.
What methods do you use and could you accidentally harm other animals in the process?
Depending on the animal you’re having problems with, we use methods like proofing, shooting, and trapping to control wildlife.
We are always careful to protect non-target species.
Can I just get rid of them myself?
This is not a good idea. Some wildlife that might be considered a pest if you’re having issues with them are protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. This includes bats, badgers, water voles, and red squirrels. This means you could fall foul of the law if you try to harm or kill them.
We control certain species of animals including rabbits and grey squirrels, but we operate according to strict regulations.
What is wildlife management?
Wildlife and people can co-exist, but there are times when they inevitably come into conflict. This is usually when wildlife cause property damage, harm crops and plants, or pose a health risk.
Wildlife management involves the use of legally-approved methods to deter or eradicate certain species that are considered to be pests.
What are the advantages of using specialist rope access?
It’s a safe way to work at height.
Specialist rope access is quickly set up and taken down, making it a great solution for when you need the job done fast and efficiently.
It doesn’t cause any disruption unlike other methods like scaffolding.
Where would you use it?
Specialist rope access can be used anywhere that is inaccessible by other means, such as to access complex structures where scaffolding or aerial work platforms couldn’t be used safely.
What is specialist rope access?
Our specialist technicians use ropes and safety equipment to access areas that would be inaccessible via other methods like scaffolding. Specialist rope access is a safe and efficient way to work at height.
Is one type of bird scarer enough to deter birds?
Birds can quickly get used to scarers, so our advice would be to use a range of visual and auditory scarers, combined with other bird proofing methods. The BirdAlert system allows you to attach 5 different bird scarers for maximum effect.
I have a farm. Will my animals get spooked by bird scarers that make noises?
Smart systems like Bird Alert only emit sounds like species-specific distress calls which other animals get used to because they are commonly heard in nature. Be aware though that the sound of deterrents like gas cannons can frighten some animals, especially horses, so use them appropriately.
How do bird scarers work?
Bird scarers work by using pest birds’ natural instincts against them. They work by creating a sense of danger or threat to the target species so an area is undesirable to feed, perch, or nest in.
SMART TRAPS
THE FUTURE?
Our technicians are trained to the highest service and safety standards, so you can always expect
the job to be done well, and to be done safely. We will always advise you on the best course of
action for your site, and we can deal with any type of bird control issue.
